Basic notarization questions and requirements

We can notarize most legal documents including:

We cannot notarize: Wills, vital records (birth/death certificates), documents where we have a financial interest, or incomplete documents.

You must present a current, government-issued photo ID. Acceptable forms include:

  • Driver's license or state-issued ID card
  • U.S. passport or passport card
  • Military ID
  • Permanent resident card (green card)

Important: The ID must be current (not expired), contain a photograph, and include your signature. We cannot accept photocopies, expired IDs, or foreign documents without proper authentication.

No, do not sign the document beforehand! For most notarizations, you must sign in the presence of the notary. This is a legal requirement to verify your identity and willingness to sign.

What to do instead:

  • Review the document thoroughly before our arrival
  • Have all signers present with valid ID
  • Prepare any questions about the document content
  • Ensure the document is complete and filled out (except signatures)
